1.  Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:
2.  And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
3.  And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?
4.  And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:
5.  And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will show who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
6.  This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;
7.  And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.
8.  And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:
9.  Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?
10.  And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?
11.  For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?
12.  And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:
13.  Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?
14.  Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.
15.  And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.
16.  And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:
17.  And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.
18.  And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.
19.  And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.
20.  And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
21.  Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.
22.  And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?
23.  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
24.  Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.
25.  And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.
26.  And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.
27.  So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.
28.  And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.
29.  If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.
30.  But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.
31.  And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:
32.  And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
33.  They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
34.  And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.
35.  And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.
36.  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
37.  Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.
38.  The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
39.  And Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:
40.  To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
41.  But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.
42.  And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
43.  And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.
44.  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
45.  Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
46.  And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
47.  And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
48.  And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
49.  Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.
50.  And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.

1 이제 이스할의 아들이요 고핫의 손자요 레위의 증손인 고라와 르우벤의 자손들 곧 엘리압의 아들들 다단과 아비람과 블렛의 아들 온이 사람들을 데리고

2 이스라엘 자손의 어떤 자들과 함께 모세 앞에서 일어났는데 이들은 회중 안에서 유명하여 명성이 있는 자들이요, 그 집회에 속한 이백오십 명의 통치자들이더라.

3 그들이 모세와 아론을 대적하려고 함께 모여 그들에게 이르되, 너희가 분수에 넘치게 행하는도다. 온 회중 곧 그들 각 사람이 거룩하고 {주}께서도 그들 가운데 계시거늘 너희가 어찌하여 너희 자신을 {주}의 회중보다 높이려 하느냐? 하매

4 모세가 그 말을 듣고 얼굴을 대고 엎드렸다가

5 고라와 그의 온 무리에게 말하여 이르되, 내일 {주}께서 자신에게 속한 자가 누구이며 거룩한 자가 누구인지 보이시고 또 그 사람을 자신에게 가까이 나아오게 하시되 친히 택하신 자를 자신에게 가까이 나아오게 하시리니

6 너희는 이 일을 행하라. 너희 곧 고라와 그의 온 무리는 향로를 취하고

7 내일 {주} 앞에서 그 안에 불을 담고 그것들 안에 향을 두라. 그때에 {주}께서 택하시는 자는 거룩하게 되리라. 레위의 아들들아, 너희가 분수에 넘치게 행하는도다.

8 모세가 또 고라에게 이르되, 청하건대 너희 레위의 아들들아, 들으라.

9 이스라엘의 [하나님]께서 이스라엘 회중으로부터 너희를 구별하여 자신에게 가까이 오게 하사 {주}의 성막에서 섬기는 일을 하게 하시며 회중 앞에 서서 그들을 섬기게 하신 것이 너희에게는 단지 작은 일로 보이느냐?

10 그분께서 너와 또 너와 함께하는 너의 모든 형제 곧 레위의 아들들을 데려다가 자신에게 가까이 있게 하셨거늘 너희가 제사장 직분도 구하느냐?

11 이런 까닭으로 너와 너의 온 무리가 다 함께 모여 {주}를 대적하는도다. 아론이 누구이기에 너희가 그에게 불평하느냐? 하니라.

12 ¶ 모세가 엘리압의 아들들 다단과 아비람을 부르러 사람을 보내었더니 그들이 이르되, 우리는 올라가지 아니하리라.

13 네가 우리를 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅에서 데리고 올라와 광야에서 죽이려는 것이 작은 일이기에 오히려 네가 스스로 우리를 다스리는 통치자가 되려 하느냐?

14 이뿐 아니라 네가 우리를 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅으로 데리고 들어가지도 아니하고 밭과 포도원도 우리에게 상속물로 주지 아니하였으니 네가 이 사람들의 눈을 빼려느냐? 우리는 올라가지 아니하리라, 하니라.

15 모세가 심히 노하여 {주}께 아뢰되, 주께서는 그들의 헌물에 관심을 두지 마옵소서. 나는 그들에게서 나귀 한 마리도 취하지 아니하였고 그들 중의 한 사람도 해치지 아니하였나이다, 하고

16 모세가 고라에게 이르되, 너와 너의 온 무리는 아론과 함께 내일 {주} 앞으로 나아오되

17 너희 각 사람이 자기 향로를 취하고 그 안에 향을 두고 각 사람이 자기 향로를 {주} 앞으로 가져오라. 향로는 이백오십 개니라. 너와 아론도 각각 자기 향로를 가지고 올지니라, 하매

18 그들이 각각 자기 향로를 취하여 거기에 불을 담고 그 위에 향을 두고 모세와 아론과 함께 회중의 성막 문에 서니라.

19 고라가 온 회중을 회중의 성막 문에 모으고 그들을 대적하려 하매 {주}의 영광이 온 회중에게 나타나니라.

20 {주}께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하여 이르시되,

21 너희는 이 회중으로부터 갈라서라. 내가 순식간에 그들을 소멸시키려 하노라, 하시니

22 그들이 얼굴을 대고 엎드리며 이르되, 오 [하나님]이여, 모든 육체의 영들의 [하나님]이여, 한 사람이 죄를 지었거늘 온 회중에게 진노하려 하시나이까? 하니라.

23 ¶ {주}께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되,

24 회중에게 말하여 이르기를, 너희는 고라와 다단과 아비람의 장막 주변에서 떠나라, 하라.

25 모세가 일어나 다단과 아비람에게로 가니 이스라엘의 장로들이 그를 따랐더라.

26 그가 회중에게 말하여 이르되, 원하건대 이 사악한 자들의 장막에서 떠나고 그들의 물건을 만지지 말라. 그들의 모든 죄 가운데서 너희도 소멸될까 염려하노라, 하니

27 이에 그들이 고라와 다단과 아비람의 장막 사방에서 떠나고 다단과 아비람은 자기 아내와 아들들과 어린 자식들과 함께 나와 자기들의 장막 문에 서매

28 모세가 이르되, {주}께서 나를 보내사 이 모든 일을 행하게 하신 것을 너희가 이로써 알지니 나는 내 생각대로 그것들을 행하지 아니하였느니라.

29 만일 이 사람들이 모든 사람이 죽는 공통 죽음으로 죽거나 혹은 모든 사람이 받는 징벌로 징벌을 받으면 {주}께서 나를 보내지 아니하셨느니라.

30 그러나 만일 {주}께서 새 일을 행하사 땅이 자기 입을 벌려 그들과 그들에게 속한 모든 것을 삼켜 그들이 산 채로 구덩이에 들어가게 하시면 이 사람들이 {주}를 격노하게 하였음을 너희가 깨달으리라, 하니라.

31 ¶ 그가 이 모든 말을 마치매 그들 밑의 땅이 갈라지니라.

32 땅이 자기 입을 벌려 그들과 그들의 집과 고라에게 속한 모든 사람과 그들의 모든 물건을 삼키매

33 그들과 그들에게 속한 모든 것이 산 채로 구덩이에 빠지며 땅이 그들 위에서 닫히니 그들이 회중 가운데서 끊어져 멸망하니라.

34 그들 주위에 있던 온 이스라엘이 그들의 부르짖음을 듣고 도망하였으니 이는 그들이 이르기를, 땅이 우리도 삼킬까 두렵다, 하였기 때문이라.

35 {주}로부터 불이 나와 향을 드린 이백오십 명을 소멸시켰더라.

36 ¶ {주}께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되,

37 제사장 아론의 아들 엘르아살에게 명령하여 그가 불붙는 것 중에서 향로들을 취하게 하고 너는 그 불을 저쪽으로 흩을지니 그것들이 거룩하게 되었느니라.

38 이 죄인들의 향로들이 그들의 혼을 대적하였은즉 사람들이 그것들을 취해 제단의 덮개로 쓸 넓은 판들을 만들게 하라. 그들이 그것들을 {주} 앞에 드렸으므로 그것들이 거룩하게 되었으니 그것들이 이스라엘 자손에게 표적이 되리라, 하시니라.

39 제사장 엘르아살이 불탄 자들이 향을 드릴 때 사용한 놋 향로들을 취하여 제단의 덮개로 쓸 넓은 판들을 만들어

40 이스라엘 자손에게 기념물이 되게 하였으니 이것은 아론의 씨가 아닌 낯선 자는 {주} 앞에 향을 드리러 가까이 오지 못하게 하려 함이며 또 그가 고라와 그의 무리같이 되지 않게 하려 함이더라. {주}께서 모세의 손으로 그에게 말씀하신 것과 같이 되었더라.

41 ¶ 그러나 다음 날 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중이 모세와 아론에게 불평하여 이르되, 너희가 {주}의 백성을 죽였도다, 하고

42 회중이 모여 모세와 아론을 대적할 때에 회중의 성막 쪽을 바라보니, 보라, 구름이 그것을 덮고 {주}의 영광이 나타났더라.

43 모세와 아론은 회중의 성막 앞에 이르렀더라.

44 ¶ {주}께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되,

45 너희는 이 회중 가운데서 일어나 떠나라. 내가 순식간에 그들을 소멸시키려 하노라, 하시매 그들이 얼굴을 대고 엎드리니라.

46 ¶ 모세가 아론에게 이르되, 향로를 취해 제단으로부터 불을 그 안에 담고 그 위에 향을 놓고 급히 회중에게로 가서 그들을 위하여 속죄하라. {주}로부터 진노가 나갔으므로 재앙이 시작되었느니라, 하니

47 아론이 모세가 명령한 대로 향로를 취해 회중의 한가운데로 달려간즉, 보라, 백성 가운데서 재앙이 시작되었더라. 그가 향을 놓고 백성을 위하여 속죄하고

48 죽은 자들과 산 자들 사이에 서니 재앙이 그치니라.

49 이제 고라의 일로 죽은 자들 외에 재앙으로 죽은 자가 만 사천칠백 명이더라.

50 아론이 회중의 성막 문으로 모세에게로 돌아오니라. 재앙이 그쳤더라.

2. 이스라엘 자손 총회에서 택함을 받은 자 곧 회중 가운데에서 이름 있는 지휘관 이백오십 명과 함께 일어나서 모세를 거스르니라

3. 그들이 모여서 모세와 아론을 거슬러 그들에게 이르되 너희가 분수에 지나도다 회중이 다 각각 거룩하고 여호와께서도 그들 중에 계시거늘 너희가 어찌하여 여호와의 총회 위에 스스로 높이느냐

4. 모세가 듣고 엎드렸다가

5. 고라와 그의 모든 무리에게 말하여 이르되 아침에 여호와께서 자기에게 속한 자가 누구인지, 거룩한 자가 누구인지 보이시고 그 사람을 자기에게 가까이 나아오게 하시되 곧 그가 택하신 자를 자기에게 가까이 나아오게 하시리니

6. 이렇게 하라 너 고라와 네 모든 무리는 향로를 가져다가

7. 내일 여호와 앞에서 그 향로에 불을 담고 그 위에 향을 두라 그 때에 여호와께서 택하신 자는 거룩하게 되리라 레위 자손들아 너희가 너무 분수에 지나치느니라

8. 모세가 또 고라에게 이르되 너희 레위 자손들아 들으라

9. 이스라엘의 하나님이 이스라엘 회중에서 너희를 구별하여 자기에게 가까이 하게 하사 여호와의 성막에서 봉사하게 하시며 회중 앞에 서서 그들을 대신하여 섬기게 하심이 너희에게 작은 일이겠느냐

10. 하나님이 너와 네 모든 형제 레위 자손으로 너와 함께 가까이 오게 하셨거늘 너희가 오히려 제사장의 직분을 구하느냐

11. 이를 위하여 너와 너의 무리가 다 모여서 여호와를 거스르는도다 아론이 어떠한 사람이기에 너희가 그를 원망하느냐

12. 모세가 엘리압의 아들 다단과 아비람을 부르러 사람을 보냈더니 그들이 이르되 우리는 올라가지 않겠노라

13. 네가 우리를 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅에서 이끌어 내어 광야에서 죽이려 함이 어찌 작은 일이기에 오히려 스스로 우리 위에 왕이 되려 하느냐

14. 이뿐 아니라 네가 우리를 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅으로 인도하여 들이지도 아니하고 밭도 포도원도 우리에게 기업으로 주지 아니하니 네가 이 사람들의 눈을 빼려느냐 우리는 올라가지 아니하겠노라

15. 모세가 심히 노하여 여호와께 여짜오되 주는 그들의 헌물을 돌아보지 마옵소서 나는 그들의 나귀 한 마리도 빼앗지 아니하였고 그들 중의 한 사람도 해하지 아니하였나이다 하고

16. 이에 모세가 고라에게 이르되 너와 너의 온 무리는 아론과 함께 내일 여호와 앞으로 나아오되

17. 너희는 제각기 향로를 들고 그 위에 향을 얹고 각 사람이 그 향로를 여호와 앞으로 가져오라 향로는 모두 이백오십 개라 너와 아론도 각각 향로를 가지고 올지니라

18. 그들이 제각기 향로를 가져다가 불을 담고 향을 그 위에 얹고 모세와 아론과 더불어 회막 문에 서니라

19. 고라가 온 회중을 회막 문에 모아 놓고 그 두 사람을 대적하려 하매 여호와의 영광이 온 회중에게 나타나시니라

20. 여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하여 이르시되

21. 너희는 이 회중에게서 떠나라 내가 순식간에 그들을 멸하려 하노라

22. 그 두 사람이 엎드려 이르되 하나님이여 모든 육체의 생명의 하나님이여 한 사람이 범죄하였거늘 온 회중에게 진노하시나이까

23. 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되

24. 회중에게 명령하여 이르기를 너희는 고라와 다단과 아비람의 장막 사방에서 떠나라 하라

25. 모세가 일어나 다단과 아비람에게로 가니 이스라엘 장로들이 따랐더라

26. 모세가 회중에게 말하여 이르되 이 악인들의 장막에서 떠나고 그들의 물건은 아무 것도 만지지 말라 그들의 모든 죄중에서 너희도 멸망할까 두려워하노라 하매

27. 무리가 고라와 다단과 아비람의 장막 사방을 떠나고 다단과 아비람은 그들의 처자와 유아들과 함께 나와서 자기 장막 문에 선지라

28. 모세가 이르되 여호와께서 나를 보내사 이 모든 일을 행하게 하신 것이요 나의 임의로 함이 아닌 줄을 이 일로 말미암아 알리라

29. 곧 이 사람들의 죽음이 모든 사람과 같고 그들이 당하는 벌이 모든 사람이 당하는 벌과 같으면 여호와께서 나를 보내심이 아니거니와

30. 만일 여호와께서 새 일을 행하사 땅이 입을 열어 이 사람들과 그들의 모든 소유물을 삼켜 산 채로 스올에 빠지게 하시면 이 사람들이 과연 여호와를 멸시한 것인 줄을 너희가 알리라

31. 그가 이 모든 말을 마치자마자 그들이 섰던 땅바닥이 갈라지니라

32. 땅이 그 입을 열어 그들과 그들의 집과 고라에게 속한 모든 사람과 그들의 재물을 삼키매

33. 그들과 그의 모든 재물이 산 채로 스올에 빠지며 땅이 그 위에 덮이니 그들이 회중 가운데서 망하니라

34. 그 주위에 있는 온 이스라엘이 그들의 부르짖음을 듣고 도망하며 이르되 땅이 우리도 삼킬까 두렵다 하였고

35. 여호와께로부터 불이 나와서 분향하는 이백오십 명을 불살랐더라

36. 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되

37. 너는 제사장 아론의 아들 엘르아살에게 명령하여 붙는 불 가운데에서 향로를 가져다가 그 불을 다른 곳에 쏟으라 그 향로는 거룩함이니라

38. 사람들은 범죄하여 그들의 생명을 스스로 해하였거니와 그들이 향로를 여호와 앞에 드렸으므로 그 향로가 거룩하게 되었나니 그 향로를 쳐서 제단을 싸는 철판을 만들라 이스라엘 자손에게 표가 되리라 하신지라

39. 제사장 엘르아살이 불탄 자들이 드렸던 놋 향로를 가져다가 쳐서 제단을 싸서

40. 이스라엘 자손의 기념물이 되게 하였으니 이는 아론 자손이 아닌 다른 사람은 여호와 앞에 분향하러 가까이 오지 못하게 함이며 또 고라와 그의 무리와 같이 되지 않게 하기 위함이라 여호와께서 모세를 시켜 그에게 명령하신 대로 하였더라

41. 이튿날 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중이 모세와 아론을 원망하여 이르되 너희가 여호와의 백성을 죽였도다 하고

42. 회중이 모여 모세와 아론을 칠 때에 회막을 바라본즉 구름이 회막을 덮었고 여호와의 영광이 나타났더라

43. 모세와 아론이 회막 앞에 이르매

44. 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되

45. 너희는 이 회중에게서 떠나라 내가 순식간에 그들을 멸하려 하노라 하시매 그 두 사람이 엎드리니라

46. 이에 모세가 아론에게 이르되 너는 향로를 가져다가 제단의 불을 그것에 담고 그 위에 향을 피워 가지고 급히 회중에게로 가서 그들을 위하여 속죄하라 여호와께서 진노하셨으므로 염병이 시작되었음이니라

47. 아론이 모세의 명령을 따라 향로를 가지고 회중에게로 달려간즉 백성 중에 염병이 시작되었는지라 이에 백성을 위하여 속죄하고

48. 죽은 자와 산 자 사이에 섰을 때에 염병이 그치니라

49. 고라의 일로 죽은 자 외에 염병에 죽은 자가 만 사천칠백 명이었더라

50. 염병이 그치매 아론이 회막 문 모세에게로 돌아오니라
